2018: Year of the Earth Dog

February 16th started off the New Year for many Asian cultures. Otherwise known as the Lunar New Year, it is associated with the Chinese zodiac. Every year, a new sign comes into play, revealing a different energy for that year ahead. This year, it is the Year of the Dog.

The Dog is the 11th sign in the Chinese zodiac. Dogs hold the characteristics of loyalty, honesty and helpfulness. They are generally positive and good natured. With the element being Earth for this year, the dog’s qualities are enhanced with practicality, kindness, and reliability. The direction of the bagua that the dog rules is the Northwest. This direction is associated with intuition, wisdom, and planning.

So what does this mean for 2018?

With both energies at play, this Lunar year will be one of positive growth. The energies of the past two years were fire (2016 was Fire Monkey and 2017 was Fire Rooster), and created major changes in our lives. Like the aftermath of a wildfire, the earth begins to cultivate new growth from the ashes. Major transformations are taking place, as the element of earth offers structure and stability for this new growth.

The direction of Northwest offers one the ability to sit down and review what they wish to accomplish this year. What major goals do you have? With this direction, tap into your inner wisdom to reveal what it is you wish to work towards. The planning energies of this direction will help, as the earth energies give the foundation for this path ahead.

The dog zodiac also brings aspects of loyalty and honesty. This could be a good year to develop strong and genuine friendships as well. Personal goals, positive growth, and socialization are major aspects in this upcoming year.

Happy Year of the Earth Dog!
