Six Simple Feng Shui Tips for a Peaceful Bedroom

Sleep is important. It is a cornerstone of a healthy self. The importance of a good night’s rest has been linked to  boosting your mood, improving memory, and an overall improvement in preformance. In order to achieve that R&R, people have resorted to all kinds of alternative methods, from sleepy time teas to yin yoga before bed. But did you know that your bedroom could also be affecting your sleep? According to Feng Shui teachings, the arrangement of our spaces can be a serious problem to our health. As energy affects our overall wellbeing, the energy in our bedroom can affect our sleeping patterns, but with a few easy solutions, you can aid in improving your night’s rest. Here are six simple tips to how to improve your bedroom for a peaceful night’s rest.

Remove Electronics

A bedroom should be a place of rest and relaxation, but many people use this space for more than just sleeping. It often takes a secondary function, either as an office or a living room. Computers, televisions, and any other electronics disrupt the peaceful energy of a bedroom and can leave one feeling tired and irritable. Disconnect these devices for some peace of body, mind, and soul.

Placement of the Bed

In Feng Shui, placement and direction are very important in the arrangement of energy. Since the bed is where we sleep and recharge our energy, we want it to be in a good direction to maximize rest, relaxation, and these energies. Your bed should be centered against a wall, with end tables on both sides, anchoring the bed. This relates to the Four Celestial Animals of Feng Shui. North is the direction that is associated with rejuvenation, relaxation, and meditation. Placing your bed against the North was is good to bring these energies in while you sleep. Lastly, you want to make sure that the foot of your bed is not directly across from the door. This allows the energy to travel out the doorway while you are sleeping, leaving you drained and tired.

 Choose Cool Colors

Colors with a cool undertone such as steel blue or heather grey are associated with Yin energy and create a tranquil space. Soft, cool colors such as these have been shown to reduce the heart rate, bringing a more relaxed and meditative state.

Add Crystals

Crystals are a great way to bring in some additional energy to a space. Certain stones give off different vibrations of energy. For some peaceful energy in the bedroom, Amethyst, Selenite, Moonstone, Labradorite, Kyanite, Aquamarine, and Celestite are good options. Large cluster or geodes not only amplify these energies, but make lovely decor pieces!

Add Soft Fabrics

Fabrics are associated with Yin energy and help slow down the movement of qi to create a more relaxing environment. If you have hardwood floors in your bedroom, adding an area rug to frame your bed will help contain the energy in that area while you sleep. If you have tall ceilings, hanging tapestries on the walls can help ground the energy in the room. Add other sources of fabric such as pillows, throws, and even an upholstered headboard to help relax the space.

Close your Doors at Night

While you are sleeping, it is important to contain the energy of your space so it is as relaxing and tranquil as possible. Having your doors open introduces new energy into your bedroom and can cause subconscious disturbances while you sleep. Having your doors closed contains this energy and creates a more peaceful space.
