Vegan Chocolate Cherry Malt

What is the difference between a malt and a shake? That question puzzled me when I was making this dessert. Technically a malt is specific due to the malt powder added to the drink, but considering this dessert was packed with delicious vegan chocolate protein powder, I decided to dub this a malt.

Yes a vegan malt! A mix of tart cherries and sweet chocolate, it is a creamy frozen dessert that is full of flavor. Sprinkled with a bit of chocolate granola on top, it was my Monday “pamper me” treat.

So what is in this sinfully sinless decadent dessert? Only three ingredients!

  • Cherries – Like other berries, cherries are full of anti-oxidants, riding us from free radicals and helping to repair the damage done by them. Some of these damages include symptoms of aging, such as wrinkles and hair loss.
  • Almond Milk – Almond milk has loads of minerals such as calcium, iron, magnesium, phosphorus, potassium, sodium, and zinc. It contains lots of calcium in fact. One cup contains 45% of your daily recommended intake, making this drink good for maintaining strong bones.
  • Chocolate Protein Powder – Plant protein powder is an easy way to make sure you are getting that protein that everyone is worried us vegans don’t get enough of. For this recipe I used BioChem Vegan Chocolate Protein Powder. Its special pea/hemp/cranberry protein blend not only contains 20g of protein in one scoop, but omega 3’s and antioxidants as well.

Super simple and super delicious. Just add the following amounts to a blender and enjoy!

  • 1 cup of frozen cherries
  • 1/2 scoop Chocolate protein powder
  • 3/4 cup almond milk
